What’s the Latest with the Apple Update?
Apple’s recent update is a topic of conversation—it includes a feature that may not be welcomed by many users.
The company is known for regular iOS updates, yet their newest, iOS 18, has stirred up some critical feedback from the user community.
Apple iOS 18 Insights
After its September release, users quickly voiced their displeasure over numerous changes, particularly in the Photos app.
The subsequent version, iOS 18.1.1, didn’t escape criticism either. Some users were quite outspoken, calling it ‘the worst system update ever.’
However, amidst these updates, there’s one feature you can still control, and that’s Apple’s freshly integrated AI system activating itself automatically.
Understanding Apple Intelligence
According to Apple, their AI offers a ‘smart personal intelligence system’ that integrates with iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It’s designed to harness the strength of generative models and your personal details to provide highly relevant and practical insights.
This intelligence is seamlessly woven into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, aiming to enrich user experience.
Expert Opinions on Apple Intelligence

Chip Hallett, noted for “The Ultimate Privacy Playbook,” has cautioned users about the privacy risks this new AI feature may pose, potentially accessing sensitive data.
As Hallett explains, since Apple Intelligence is deeply embedded within the operating system, it gains access to app data and can execute actions within these apps.
Further issues arise with the accuracy of information given by Apple Intelligence. For instance, BBC News highlighted an error where it incorrectly summarized a news story regarding Luigi Mangione, making the wrong assertion about an incident involving UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Jonathan Bright, head of AI for public services at the Alan Turing Institute, points out that such misinformation is a significant worry.
Petros Iosifidis, a media policy expert from City University in London, mirrored this concern. Though there are potential benefits, he asserts, ‘the technology hasn’t matured enough and carries risks of spreading wrong information.’
Disabling Apple Intelligence
If you’d rather not use Apple Intelligence, thankfully turning it off is pretty simple.
You can quickly navigate through your phone settings, locate the Apple Intelligence option, and switch it off. When prompted, confirm by selecting ‘Turn Off Apple Intelligence.’
This feature allows users to maintain more control over what data gets accessed, ensuring better privacy and reducing the possibility of unintended actions.
