In an unfortunate and unforeseen incident, an eight-year-old girl tragically lost her life when her coat got caught in a car door during a school drop-off.
A Heartbreaking Loss at Gateway Elementary

The incident occurred near Gateway Elementary in Borger, Texas, as the young student, Serenity Campos, was being dropped off for school around 8 am. The little girl was exiting a vehicle in the designated drop-off spot when her coat got trapped in the car door, unbeknownst to the driver.
Brandon Strope, a public information officer and assistant city manager, explained that as the vehicle began to move, Serenity was unfortunately pulled along, causing her to fall and be struck by the moving car.
Attempts were made by school personnel to provide first aid, and paramedics quickly arrived. Sadly, after being taken to Golden Plains Community Hospital, Serenity was pronounced dead, just days after celebrating her eighth birthday.
Community in Mourning
Serenity’s untimely death has deeply affected the community. Many have expressed their sorrow and support by using the hashtag #LoveLikeSerenity and wearing pink, her favorite color, to honor her memory. The school is also offering counseling sessions to help students and staff process their grief.

In remembering Serenity, an obituary highlights her love for sports, animals, the outdoors, dancing, and her dreams of one day becoming a school principal and running her own YouTube show. Her love for all things pink, fluffy, and glittery remains a cherished memory for her loved ones.
The tribute to Serenity paints a picture of a girl who was ‘full of life, love, and enthusiasm.’ Known for her protective and caring nature, she was a ‘little mom’ to her friends and family, continuously spreading joy with her always-present smile.
Family Supported by Community

To aid the grieving family, a GoFundMe campaign has been established. At present, it has raised over $77,000 to help Serenity’s parents, Daniela and Daniel Campos, and their three other children manage their sorrow and address funeral and everyday expenses.
Authorities have termed the incident a ‘tragic accident’ and police confirm that no criminal charges are anticipated. A growing memorial at the site, filled with teddy bears and toys, reflects the innocence and joy that Serenity brought into the lives of others.
A Community United in Grief
Despite the presence of senior school staff who rushed to Serenity’s aid, the accident occurred with such speed that it could not be averted. The Borger Police Department issued a statement expressing their shared grief with the family and the community.
The painful event serves as a reminder of the suddenness with which accidents can strike and the importance of community support in times of sorrow. Those affected are being asked to show patience, understanding, and compassion as everyone involved navigates this period of deep mourning.
As the community comes together during such difficult times, they continue to honor Serenity’s memory and support each other in healing from this unexpected loss.
Please keep Serenity’s family and friends in your thoughts, as they deal with the profound impact of her passing.
