Miss USA Finalist Criticizes Selena Gomez for Reaction to Trump Policies

Former Miss California and Miss USA runner-up Carrie Prejean Boller recently voiced her criticism of Selena Gomez, labeling her emotional response to Donald Trump’s executive order as ‘fake.’ Gomez had shared a heartfelt video on social media where she appeared distressed over the situation, although the clip has since been removed.

In her Instagram Stories post dated January 27th, Gomez expressed her concerns about the executive order stating, “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand.” She continued, “I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” Despite Gomez being born in the United States, her father’s Mexican heritage forms a significant part of her identity. Selena proudly identifies as a third-generation American-Mexican.

Shortly after sharing her tearful video, Gomez decided to delete it and replaced it with a simple black screen, captioned: “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.” Her actions were in response to the troubling immigration policies that led to massive arrests.

The recent order from President Trump resulted in the arrest of 956 individuals in just one day. Over a weekend, the BBC reported additional arrests, with 286 on Saturday, 593 on Friday, and further individuals apprehended the previous day. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency disclosed over 1000 removals on one of those days. Trump’s rationale behind these actions stemmed from what he referred to as a ‘national emergency’ at the US-Mexico border, leading to the mobilization of armed forces to monitor the region.

In his continued efforts, Trump labeled the Mexican drug cartels as ‘foreign terrorist organizations’ and announced the cessation of automatic citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants. According to the administration, citizenship is now regarded as ‘a priceless and profound gift’.

Furthermore, the U.S. Refugee Admissions Programme has been paused ‘until such time as the further entry into the United States of refugees aligns with the interests of the United States.’ Specific guidelines were outlined, allowing the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security to admit refugees on a case-by-case basis, ensuring these admissions align with national interests and security.

Amid these announcements, Carrie Prejean Boller took to her social media platforms to challenge Gomez. She commented, ‘Hey Selena Gomez, how about you call all of “your people” you’re crying about being deported and invite them to stay at your mansion behind your big walls and gates until they leave?’ She pressed onward to suggest Gomez should host them, providing them with meals, shelter, education, and medical support.

Concluding her statements, Boller accused Gomez of offering superficial sympathy, saying, ‘You could have helped them and you have not and will not. Save your fake tears.’

A Different Perspective:

The ongoing discourse around immigration and national security continues to evoke powerful emotional responses from celebrities, politicians, and the general public. While individuals like Gomez express their dismay and empathy through social media, others support the current administration’s stern approach to immigration as a means to protect national interests.

It’s crucial to recognize the diverse opinions on this matter, with emotions running high on both sides. As debates continue, it serves as a reminder of the complex nature of immigration policies and the broad spectrum of emotions they incite.
