A heartwarming and thought-provoking story comes from a woman who claims she briefly died and ventured into what she describes as the underworld, or “hell.” Acting as a messenger, she shares her challenging journey beyond the mortal realm as a stern reminder to those who may not be living righteously.
In 2019, Charlotte Holmes went for a regular check-up with her heart doctor when she received unexpected news. Her heart doctor found her blood pressure at an alarming 234/134, way above the normal 120/80, indicating a critical condition.
Instead of heading back home, Charlotte was admitted to the hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Her doctors were determined to lower the intense pressure in her system. “We need it to come down,” her heart doctor urged, warning her that she might be facing another stroke or even a heart attack.
Charlotte was welcomed into a hospital room, attached to an IV in hopes of easing her blood vessels and relieving her overworked heart. Beside her was her spouse, Danny, her loyal companion for nearly five decades.
Danny stood watch as doctors worked diligently on Charlotte. “They called this code, and everyone rushed in. My feeling was… would I get to bring her back home?” Danny shared.
It’s during this time that Charlotte began talking mysteriously about “the flowers.” Danny reflected, “I knew there weren’t any flowers in the room, so it was clear she was somewhere else entirely.”
Charlotte’s heart ceased functioning, and both she and Danny recount that she was medically dead for eleven minutes.
“I found myself hovering above my body, observing Danny in the corner,” Charlotte said, describing her surreal experience. “I saw him pull back while around me, there were nurses. Then, I opened my eyes to see pure beauty—trees, grass, all rhythmically moving with music. Heaven is indescribably more wonderful than we can comprehend.”
Accompanied by ethereal beings, Charlotte was led into “heaven,” where she experienced pure bliss and the complete absence of fear. “Going home brings pure joy, thanks to the angels,” she said.
She was reunited with beloved family members who had passed, including her parents and sister. Charlotte spoke of a radiant light she saw beyond them, too bright to gaze at directly, but unmistakably divine. She saw a young child and realized it was her son, lost during a miscarriage decades ago when she was around six months pregnant.
“I was told, ‘Charlotte, it’s a boy,’ and then he vanished. When I questioned how this toddler could be my son, God explained, ‘They grow in heaven, through eternity. There’s no time.’ So, my boy, our boy, is still a child after 48 years.”
However, her journey didn’t conclude in heavenly bliss.
Guided by a divine presence she called “God,” Charlotte was shown the edge of hell. “The smell—rotten flesh; the screams…” she described with horror. Such a place was starkly different from the paradise she had just witnessed.
Tasked with spreading the warning, Charlotte returned to warn of hell’s torments awaiting those who refuse to change.
Charlotte returned to life after those 11 minutes. “I felt myself pulled back into my body; I felt pain and sorrow again,” she explained. Danny, relieved by her returning awareness, knew she would be home once more.
Charlotte lived to share her compelling story tirelessly until her passing at 72 on November 28, 2023. She leaves behind her cherished husband of 52 years, her daughter Chrystal Holmes Meek, and her loving grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Through a heartfelt Facebook post, Danny expressed, “After 52 years of adventure, it’s so painful to part from my ‘beautiful little lady’… Her glimpse of heaven changed her life until it was time for her to truly return. Her journey has finally ended.”
Charlotte consistently shared, “I can assure you, heaven is real.” What do you make of her vibrant passage and solemn warning? Share her tale to spark conversation among loved ones.
