Trump Admin Asks Supreme Court To Freeze Deadlines In Biden-Era Cases

President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice has taken a significant step by asking the US Supreme Court to put the brakes on a series of legal cases linked to policies from President Joe Biden’s administration. These cases, including those dealing with environmental regulations and student loan forgiveness, are currently under review. Sarah Harris, who is currently serving as the acting solicitor general, reached out to the court with motions asking for these proceedings to be postponed. The idea behind the request is to give the new administration time to closely evaluate the policies introduced by Biden.

Over the next few months, the Supreme Court had been slated to hear arguments in these high-profile cases. However, the Trump Department of Justice is now working to freeze all associated deadlines, essentially putting the cases on indefinite hold. One key element of President Biden’s agenda is the student loan forgiveness program, which offered debt relief for over 5 million students. But this initiative wasn’t without its critics – it faced legal challenges from some Republican attorneys general who argued that Biden had exceeded his authority.

The 5th Circuit Court previously blocked Biden’s “borrower defense” rule, which aimed to cancel loans for students who had been misled. Despite the possibility that the Trump administration’s recent actions could render these cases moot, it is noteworthy that the Supreme Court had already agreed to examine them. In an additional contrast between the two administrations, Trump has been vocal about his support for boosting domestic production of fossil fuels, a stance that directly contradicts Biden’s climate-focused agenda.
