Selena Gomez Tearfully Reacts to Trump’s Recent Executive Order

In a heartfelt moment, Selena Gomez took to her Instagram Stories to post an emotional video expressing her feelings about Donald Trump’s latest executive order. Visibly upset, Selena was moved to tears, overcome by the distress she felt.

On January 27th, the beloved singer shared her concerns, saying, “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand.”

She continued with deep remorse, “I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” Her sincere and raw outpouring of emotion struck a chord with many of her fans and followers.

Despite being a proud American, Selena’s father’s Mexican roots give her a strong connection to the recent events, as she considers herself a ‘proud third-generation American-Mexican’.

Following her emotional message, Selena decided to remove the video. In its place, she posted a simple black screen suggesting her empathy might not be widely accepted: “Apparently it’s not okay to show empathy for people.”

The executive order in question has indeed resulted in a significant increase in arrests, as reported by various sources. On just one day, a staggering 956 individuals were apprehended under the immigration crackdown led by President Trump. BBC’s coverage highlighted that additional arrests occurred on subsequent days, with 286 on Saturday, 593 on Friday, followed by 538 the day prior.

In a further move, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) stated that over 1000 deportations were carried out on Thursday alone.

President Trump has cited this as a ‘national emergency’ at the US-Mexico border, with a call to increase military presence for patrols. This is partly due to labeling Mexican drug cartels as ‘foreign terrorist organizations’ and challenging the citizenship rights traditionally given to children of undocumented immigrants, describing citizenship as ‘a priceless and profound gift’.

The changes have also impacted the US Refugee Admissions Programme, which has been suspended in the current climate, pending alignment with national interests.

According to the new directive, it’s under the discretion of the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security whether to admit refugees into the United States. This decision is determined on a case-by-case basis, ensuring it serves the national interest and does not threaten national security or public welfare.
