The reality was daunting. Loren explained that the machine was a 10K Gradall forklift, significantly larger and more powerful than many imagined. Sabia thoughtfully edited footage of the actual forklift into the video to emphasize its true size and capabilities.
Sabia’s father highlighted a common perception – that people often think of small, light warehouse forklifts when imagining the machine involved in Loren’s accident. However, the machine that impacted Loren was far more imposing.
The forklift in question had an operating weight of 30,000 pounds (13,600 kg), measuring 27 feet (8.2 m) in length, 12 feet (3.7 m) in height, and 8.5 feet (2.6 m) in width. Its ability to handle heavy loads made it a substantial piece of equipment. Sabia’s father described the weight comparison as akin to ‘half a semi coming down on you,’ which paints a terrifying picture of the incident.
Sabia further indicated that the only piece of equipment capable of moving such a colossal machine was an excavator, underscoring the forklift’s enormous size and weight.
