Noted actor Kirk Cameron has made headlines by deciding to leave California, a state he has long called home. This shift comes amidst growing concerns and a desire for a more secure and value-oriented community.
Kirk, famous for his role on Growing Pains, explained that California has been evolving in a direction that doesn’t align with his personal values. He noticed increasing division and tensions and felt it was time to find a new place to live where unity and shared values were more prevalent.

With six children, Kirk’s move to Tennessee was partially motivated by family ties, as three of his adult children already reside there. Additionally, he was in search of a community characterized by what he describes as a “healthy freedom mindset.”
He shared with the Washington Examiner, “In times of potential economic challenges and rising divisions, my family and I prefer to be around people who prioritize God, family, and country. Tennessee provides that environment, making it a wonderful place to call home.”

Upon moving, Kirk realized that many Californians have also settled in Tennessee, referring to them humorously as “California refugees.” This trend has been surprising yet comforting to him as it indicates he’s not alone in his quest for a better living situation.
When encountering fellow former Californians in public spaces like grocery stores, he often jokes, “Don’t California our Tennessee,” expressing the importance of preserving Tennessee’s unique character despite the influx of new residents.
Following the steps of his sister, Candace Cameron Bure, who also opted to leave California, Kirk emphasizes the pursuit of safety and community. He appreciates Tennessee’s “good wholesome values” and even adds that the state’s “good whiskey” is a delightful bonus.
