Kevin Bacon Discovers He’s Related To His Actress Wife After Taking Unsettling DNA Test

Kevin Bacon recently had an eye-opening experience after learning through a DNA test that he is related to his wife, Kyra Sedgwick. Such revelations can sometimes lead to more intrigue than clarity.

It’s one of those insights that might leave you wishing you’d never known.

This was certainly true for Bacon, who found his link to Sedgwick was uncomfortably close.

Participating on the PBS Americas show, Finding Your Roots, alongside his wife, Bacon uncovered intriguing family connections.

Many fans recognize Sedgwick from her roles in films and series like Singles and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Married since September 4, 1988, the couple shares two children, Sosie and Travis.

However, their exploration into their family histories revealed more than they had anticipated.

The startling revelations were delivered by Harvard’s professor of African-American history, Henry Louis Gates Jr., leaving fans and followers astonished.

Social media was buzzing with comments, with one user quipping, “The less fun version of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon!” Another praised the couple, saying, “One of the best Hollywood couples around, not going down today internet!!” Others chimed in about their hilarious podcast on Spotify, and admired them as a “beautiful couple growing old together.”

On the show, Sedgwick shared her concerns about the possibility of being related, and it turned out her suspicions were well-founded.

Bacon, whose roots trace back to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, discovered his lineage extends 12 generations back to Quaker Henry Comly in the 17th century. Among his notable ancestors is King Edward I, known as the ‘Hammer of the Scots’ and a key figure in the battles against William Wallace.

Presenter Henry Louis Gates Jr. informed Bacon of other fascinating ties, “You are 13th cousins twice removed with Brad Pitt, and you share an ancestor with President Obama, making you 12th cousins, three times removed.”

Reflecting on his prominent connections, Bacon humorously remarked, “No kidding. I knew I wasn’t getting enough respect.”

On the other hand, Sedgwick’s lineage showcased one of New England’s most esteemed families, involved in Massachusetts’s liberation from British rule and founding the American Republic.

The pinnacle of the episode was when Gates Jr. unveiled a picture revealing Sedgwick’s ninth cousin once removed, none other than her husband, Kevin Bacon.

Upon learning this, Sedgwick exclaimed several times, “I knew it! I knew it!” while still assuring her spouse, “As long as we’re not first cousins, it’s fine.”

Bacon took a philosophical stance on the discovery, stating, “It’s a beautiful concept that we are connected. That we all, essentially, kind of climbed out of the same swamp. It’s fun to be at the forefront of that idea.”

Families and their histories can weave intricate and unexpected patterns, and it seems in this case, Hollywood holds some surprising secrets!
