After the November elections, when Donald Trump emerged victorious, Jill Biden extended an invitation to Melania Trump for the well-known White House tradition. However, reports suggest that Melania declined the invitation.
In a conversation with the Washington Post, Jill Biden disclosed that Melania Trump “broke” the long-standing tradition where the incoming and outgoing First Ladies would meet for tea as part of the presidential transition.
Jill Biden followed up with a personal note to Melania, delivered through President Biden when he and Melania met at the reopening of Notre Dame back in December of last year.

“I congratulated her and offered my assistance,” Jill Biden shared in her Washington Post interview. “What would be the point of being unfriendly?”
Eventually, the two First Ladies did meet on January 9th during the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter. Jill noted that Melania thanked her “during pleasantries.”
Melania later mentioned, “The first time was challenging because we had limited information,” she explained, referencing the transition. “The information was withheld by the previous administration. This time, however, is different — being the second transition, I’m more prepared.”

Brian Kilmeade, a host, questioned Melania about whether she might consider appearing on magazine covers if she became First Lady again. “You’re in the White House but not on any magazine covers. Will that change? And would you accept offers from magazines like Vogue or People?”
Melania, who has a background in modeling, responded, “I’ve been on Vogue and many magazines’ covers before. We have far more important things to focus on than appearing on magazine covers.”

She further commented, “I don’t think anyone’s life would be different if I’m on a cover.”
This statement was perceived by some as a gentle dig at Jill Biden, who was featured on Vogue Magazine’s cover in August.
President Biden and Jill Biden plan to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
