Jimmy Carter, the 99-year-old former president, paid tribute to his late wife, Rosalynn Carter, at her funeral on Tuesday. Despite his age and current hospice care, Jimmy made the journey from his home in Plains, Georgia, to Atlanta to bid farewell to his beloved wife of over 77 years. Dressed in a snappy suit and covered in a comforting blanket, Jimmy was wheeled to the front of the proceedings, where he took his seat.

On the previous day, Rosalynn’s remains had been brought to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. The funeral was attended by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, as well as all the other former first ladies, including Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Melania Trump, and Laura Bush.

They all came to pay their respects and were captured entering the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in a solemn line.

Chip Carter, the couple’s son, shared a touching moment his father had with Rosalynn before her passing. In their final moments together, Jimmy expressed his love for her and told her how proud he was of her accomplishments in life. Rosalynn was renowned for her unwavering advocacy for mental health awareness and advancements in mental health services. She fought passionately to break down the barriers and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

On November 18, the day prior to Rosalynn’s passing, Jimmy reportedly requested a moment alone with his wife. Chip believes that in their private chamber, where Jimmy’s own hospice bed stood beside Rosalynn’s, they spent some precious time praying together, their feet facing each other so they could gaze into each other’s eyes.
