When Meghan Markle married into the Royal Family, she reportedly believed she was “going to be the Beyoncé of the UK,” according to a former employee of Buckingham Palace. According to the unidentified insider who spoke to Valentine Low, the Duchess of Sussex, 41, believed her new position inside the British monarchy “would offer her that credit.”

However, Low said that the Queen, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 96, “took the view that unless the couple were prepared to abide by the restrictions that applied to working members of the royal family, they could not be allowed to carry out official duties.”

The source was reported by the royal correspondent as stating, “What [Meghan] realized was that there were so many laws that were so silly that she couldn’t even do the things that she could do as a private citizen, which is tough.”

“Decision-makers only needed to sit down at a table and determine what to do about the problem. What do you need to do to feel better? What more can we provide?”

Mr. Low went on to describe “another viewpoint,” according to which it would have been impossible for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to reach a settlement with the Firm.

They described the separation as “inevitable” and warned that it would be “challenging” to continue working with everyone involved, including the Duke and Duchess.

It was reported that the two had “good chats” about how much time they would spend on public activities vs their private pursuits.

He said that the Duke and Duchess would continue to get royal privileges without having to fulfill the duties placed on senior royals, but there must be no half-measures.

The Duke and Duchess haven’t made many trips to the UK since quitting the royal family.

In March 2020, they resigned from their roles as working royals and relocated to Meghan’s home state of California.

They are raising Archie and Lilibet apart from the Royal Family and on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

When Prince Harry returned to Kensington Palace in 2021 to unveil a plaque in memory of his mother, Princess Diana, Meghan was not present.

They returned in June 2022 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations with their two young children.

They were out of sight for much of the holiday weekend, but they did make it to a special ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

When the pair returned to the UK in September, they said that they would pay visits to charity “near and dear to their hearts.”

During their vacation to the UK, the Queen was reportedly receiving medical treatment in Balmoral.

Then Prince Harry traveled to the Royal Family’s home in Scotland, while it’s thought that he did so after his grandmother had died.

Shortly after learning of the late monarch’s demise, the Duke and Duchess startled Windsor’s audiences by leaving the palace with Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales.

The Duke and Duchess attended the ceremony that followed the transfer of the Queen’s coffin to Westminster Hall.

They both felt terrible when they and the rest of the Royal Family went to the Queen’s ceremonial funeral on Monday.

The Duchess of Sussex’s representatives have been contacted for comment.
