Keith Urban Mourns the Loss of His Father after a Brave Battle with Cancer

Keith Urban, the acclaimed country star, is mourning the loss of his father, Robert Urban, who passed away on Saturday night (Dec. 5) after a long and courageous fight against cancer. Keith expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous support and love he has received during this trying time.

In a statement, Keith Urban shared, “I have been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support that Nic and I, along with our family, have received since my Dad’s passing on Saturday night. His arduous battle with cancer has concluded, and he has finally found peace. My father’s profound love for country music and his devotion to America paved the way for my own journey in life and shaped me into the person I am today. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all who have kept us in their thoughts and prayers.”

Recently, Keith Urban revealed that his father had entered hospice care. During the unveiling of his exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the singer disclosed the ongoing battle his father was facing. He shared with The Tennessean, “He’s probably only got a few weeks, if that. I’ve just been dealing with that the last couple of days. This has all come at a very strange time, where it’s typical of a career that has extreme highs and extreme lows, all often at the exact same time. So [the exhibit] is bittersweet a little bit because [my dad] is the catalyst for all of this. My dad is the catalyst for me living in America.”

Keith Urban’s exhibit, So Far, features costumes made by his father, which he wore during his earlier performances. Reflecting on his father’s influence, he shared, “My dad particularly always thought it was important that I dressed like a performer, so a lot of those outfits were actually made by him, with the help of my mom, but particularly my dad. He just really thought I should dress well and look like a performer.”

Last year, Keith Urban’s wife, Nicole Kidman, experienced the loss of her father. In an interview, she expressed how Keith “literally carried” her during that challenging time.
