Christina Applegate

Christina Applegate, best known for her roles in TV sitcoms like Married… with Children and the Netflix series Dead to Me, recently revealed her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Sadly, this means that the talented actress may no longer be able to act on camera.

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system that can lead to various symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness, and problems with balance and coordination. Applegate, who is 51 years old, disclosed her diagnosis while working on the final season of Dead to Me, a role that has become highly praised by both the audience and critics.

During a candid interview with Vanity Fair, the Anchorman star shared her struggles with MS and how it has greatly impacted her daily life, particularly in terms of her balance. Applegate expressed, “With the disease of MS, it’s never a good day. Going down the stairs, carrying things — you can’t do that anymore. It f—ing sucks.”

While praising her co-star Linda Cardellini and the team behind Dead to Me, Applegate hinted that this series may be her last on-camera performance due to the challenges MS presents. She explained, “I’m probably not going to work on-camera again… This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working.”

Applegate acknowledged that her ability to commit to the same demanding hours she once did may not be feasible anymore. However, she is exploring alternative avenues to continue her involvement in the entertainment industry. “It’s about finding what I’m capable of doing… I’m just a newbie to all of this,” she shared in a previous interview with Variety.

Despite the setbacks she faces, Applegate remains hopeful about her future. She expressed an interest in producing or developing projects and stressed her need to execute the many ideas swimming around in her mind. In the same interview with Variety, she admitted to being in mourning for the person she once was and hoped to find a supportive environment in the industry to accommodate her needs.

This news comes after Applegate’s successful battle with breast cancer in 2008 when she underwent a double mastectomy and emerged cancer-free. Balancing the news of her MS diagnosis along with her previous struggles, it’s clear that Applegate is a true fighter.

As fans of Christina Applegate, it is disheartening to hear that she may no longer be able to grace our screens with her incredible talent as much as before. However, it’s essential to support and rally behind her as she fights against MS. Let’s wish her the very best and hope that she finds new ways to continue working and inspiring us all.
