Out of nowhere, a brake part detached from the vehicle in front of them, hurtling through the air and crashing into their windshield. The impact shattered the glass and struck McClure in the neck and chest, causing fatal injuries. It was a freak accident that turned a routine car ride into a nightmare.
The accident was described in a dispatch report as follows, “A small, gray passenger car… got a 21-year-old female bleeding from the neck. Something flew through the window and hit her on the interstate.” A horrifying and unimaginable turn of events that ended a young life prematurely.
Autumn McClure’s brother, Collin Le, took to Facebook to share his grief and memories of his beloved sister. Describing her as “sweet and gentle,” Le urged everyone to cherish their loved ones and siblings. He also created a GoFundMe page to gather funds for his sister’s funeral expenses.
According to Le, McClure tragically passed away before emergency services could reach the scene. He revealed that the object that pierced the windshield was a brake drum, which had been improperly secured in the bed of a truck in front of their car. It was a preventable accident that cost McClure her life.
Autumn McClure had a promising future ahead of her as she pursued her studies in graphic design at Chattanooga State Community College. She had a deep love for the beach, animals, and her pets. She enjoyed attending concerts, paddleboarding, and hiking. Her brother expressed that her absence will leave an irreplaceable void.
In the wake of this tragedy, Collin Le urged people who transport items in the beds of their trucks to be mindful of the potential risks they pose to others. A small act of securing items properly could prevent a similar tragedy from befalling another family.
