Being a vegan can sometimes come with challenges. One such challenge was faced by Amie-Beth Stedman, a vegan from Essex, England, who recently had an unfortunate experience at a local restaurant called Sheesh.

Stedman had planned a night out with a friend and they wanted to go to a place with good vibes. However, there was a catch – Sheesh is a barbecue restaurant, and Stedman is a vegan. As you can imagine, this created a bit of a dilemma.

In the past, Stedman had tried to order side items from Sheesh’s menu, as that’s typically how she enjoys her meals, mixing and matching smaller portions. But on this particular occasion, when she called ahead to ask if they would accommodate her, things took a disappointing turn.

When Stedman explained to the employee that she was a vegan and was looking to order some of the sides, she was met with a rather shocking response. The employee not only declined her request but also made rude remarks like, “I don’t even know why a vegan would want to come to our restaurant anyway.”

Feeling frustrated and disrespected, Stedman decided to share her experience on TikTok, to bring awareness to the fact that Sheesh was not vegan-friendly and had poor customer service. Many people who watched her video empathized with her and expressed their belief that restaurants should be more accommodating to vegans in this day and age.

It is understandable that being vegan can sometimes present challenges in finding suitable dining options. However, it is important for restaurants to recognize and respect the dietary choices of all their customers, ensuring a positive and inclusive dining experience for everyone.
