The Victim: Donald “Prentice” Patience
Donald Patience, affectionately known as Prentice, was a 45-year-old and a cherished member of his family. According to his loved ones, he was a much-loved son, brother, and father who will be deeply missed. Prentice adored his children and was described as an incredible man by his ex-wife, Kirsty.
The Stolen Labradoodle: Layla
The heartless act of stealing Layla, Prentice’s white labradoodle, has shattered the Patience family. Layla was not only a companion but an integral part of their lives. The dog was taken when the burglar targeted Prentice’s house, and tragically, Layla was found miles away from her loving home.
Swift Police Response
The police were quick to act when they received a call reporting the stolen dog. Approximately just 160 feet away from the crime scene, the suspect was apprehended while in possession of Layla. Thankfully, the dog was immediately returned to the rightful authorities, but unfortunately, it was too late to save Prentice.

Following a post-mortem investigation, the Home Office determined suspicious circumstances surrounding Prentice’s death. Currently, a 39-year-old male is in police custody as a suspect on the charge of murder. Two other individuals, aged 27 and 41, have been released on bail while the investigation continues.
