A Sad Discovery

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a Michigan man named Gregory Jarvis, 57, was found dead with the winning lottery ticket in his possession. Jarvis had won a $45,000 prize in a Club Keno game called “The Jack.”

According to authorities, Jarvis was discovered lifeless next to his boat on a private beach in Saginaw Bay. Police Chief Kyle Romzek of Caseville shared the unfortunate news.

Missing Out on His Prize

Tragically, Gregory Jarvis was unable to claim his lottery winnings as he did not have his Social Security card with him at the time. In Michigan, presenting a Social Security card is mandatory for lottery prizes exceeding $600.

After realizing his need for the card, Jarvis disappeared the following week. And it wasn’t until about 10 days after his big win that authorities found his body on a Kaysville beach in Saginaw Bay.

A Lost Opportunity

Jarvis had plans to use his lottery winnings to visit his loved ones. He stayed at the Blue Water Inn and expressed his desire to share his good fortune with his family. In fact, he even returned to the inn’s tavern to buy everyone a round of drinks.

However, his disappearing act raised concerns among the inn’s staff. Dawn Talasky, the owner of Blue Water Inn, shared her worry, stating, “We thought something was wrong because he wasn’t here all week.”

Tragic Accident

Jarvis’ boss made an attempt to meet with him on September 22 and visited the inn, but Jarvis was nowhere to be found. Two days later, a resident of Kaysville discovered his lifeless body on a private beach. The police confirmed that Jarvis died next to his boat.

During the autopsy, it was revealed that Jarvis suffered a head injury that led to suffocation. To add to the mystery, authorities found the winning lottery ticket in his wallet. Concerned about foul play, they initiated an investigation. However, it was concluded that his death was accidental.

Remembering Gregory Jarvis

The police handed over the winning lottery ticket to Jarvis’ family. They can now access the funds and honor his memory by doing something special. It is a small consolation in the face of such a tragedy.

Dawn Talasky, the bar owner, shared one of her last interactions with Jarvis. She recalled how he reacted joyfully when someone announced the win, saying, “Great!” When asked if it was him, he replied affirmatively. Talasky described him as a kind and regular presence at the inn, mentioning that he planned to visit his family in North Carolina with the prize money.
