The heartbreaking search for 10-month-old Zeke Best came to a tragic end earlier this week. After just 36 hours, authorities discovered his lifeless body, only one day after issuing an Amber Alert in hopes of finding him safe.
According to reports, Zeke was found deceased in a secluded area, approximately 24 miles east of Idaho Falls, Idaho. The discovery was made when a concerned hunter spotted a man in a sleeping bag by the roadside and immediately alerted the authorities.
The man in question, Jeremy Albert Best, was reported to be naked and behaving erratically. It was later revealed that he was wanted in connection with the Amber Alert, suspected of kidnapping Zeke from Teton County.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office shared that Best’s car was located in an embankment. Tragically, baby Zeke’s lifeless body was found at the scene, mere steps away from his still-living father.
This devastating event followed alarming incidents involving Best. On Thursday, November 30, he was spotted walking naked through a store, causing concern among those around him. Despite this alarming behavior, he was released from a mental health screening only hours before allegedly murdering his wife, Kali Jean Randall (38), and abducting Zeke.
With the shocking discovery of Kali’s body on Thursday evening, an urgent search was launched to find both Best and Zeke. Sadly, this search concluded on Saturday morning, with Zeke’s lifeless body found near his still-living father.
Best has been taken into custody based on an arrest warrant related to his wife’s death. He is currently held at the Bonneville County Jail and will remain there until his arraignment.
“Our hearts go out to the family of the victims involved in this case. Further information will be released as the investigation progresses,” said the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.
