Have you ever found yourself stuck behind a customer with way too many items in the express lane at a shop? We’ve all been there, and it can be frustrating. But recently, something incredible happened at a Walmart in Colorado Springs that left everyone in awe.

It all started when I was standing in line with a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk, and a couple of other things. Behind me was a woman whose cart was overflowing with items. In her hurry to get ahead, she almost ran me over and squeezed in front of me in the 10 items or less express line.

As she started unloading her cart onto the checkout stand, the cashier calmly said, “Which ten items would you like, ma’am?” The woman was taken aback and asked, “What do you mean?” In the most patient tone, the cashier held up both hands, showing all ten fingers, and pointed to the sign above the lane that read “Ten Items or Less” in English and Spanish.

Embarrassed, the woman’s face turned red and she exclaimed, “But I want all of this!” Without missing a beat, the cashier replied, “I’m sorry, ma’am. As I mentioned earlier, this is a ten items or less line. Kindly choose the ten items you’d like to purchase today.”

At this point, the woman let out a noise that resembled one of those screaming goats and forcefully pushed her still overflowing cart. It missed hitting a little old man sitting on a bench by inches. In her frustration, she gave all of us who were laughing at the situation the finger and stormed out of the store.

Meanwhile, I completed my purchase and couldn’t help but appreciate the cashier’s quick thinking and sense of humor. It was the best improv comedy moment I had witnessed in years. To show my appreciation, I tipped the cashier $20 for brightening up my day.

This incident proves that even in the most unexpected places, like a Walmart, you can find moments of laughter and joy. It also serves as a reminder for all of us to be mindful of the rules and considerate towards others, especially in express lanes. Priceless experiences like these are what make life truly memorable.
