There are some songs that practically everyone in the world knows.

“The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel is a timeless classic.

It was released in 1964, but it had a dismal review. In fact, the band split up.

That’s how horrible it was.

The song first caught the attention of listeners in Boston and Florida in 1965.

Over the past 45 years, it has been referenced, parodied, and, of course, covered by several musicians.

It can be spooky or uplifting, and it has been and will continue to be adored by generations.

The most recent significant cover is that of the Chicago heavy metal band Disturbed.

When the cover was released, it brought new life to the song, prompting the band to perform it live on Conan.

The rendition performed by Disturbed’s David Draiman on Conan has received 90 million views, making it the most-viewed YouTube video from Conan’s show and garnering acclaim from Simon himself.

Is there room for another fantastic cover, though?

Ruben Liversage, 16, sings Disturbed’s version of the song, and he is incredible.

David Draiman’s rendition of the song makes the most of his tremendous vocal range, highlighting his deep and powerful voice in particular.

Anybody who does a cover of his song would have to have a voice with similar gravitas.

Can a 16-year-old kid really have what it takes to match Draiman’s version?

If that 16-year-old is Ruben Liversage, then you bet!

Furthermore, his presentation includes a whole dance band and background singers, rather than just him singing into a microphone.

They plainly see that Ruben is a singer worth devoting time and effort in bringing in the spotlight as part of a school concert.

His performance begins with simply him on a cloudy stage, spotlights obscuring him as he begins the song with the necessary scary tone.

We can hear the force of this young talent’s voice right away.

Ruben is joined by two contemporary dancers, and their innovative techniques requiring balance and strength for their lifts bring professionalism and a sense of artistic partnership to the piece as a whole.

Ruben eventually steps forward into the light.

At this point in the show, it’s difficult to imagine that this kid is only 16 years old!

You could be excused for thinking that David Draiman himself was singing behind the lights if you only used your ears.

Ruben, on the other hand, does not have a bald head and “snakebite” lip piercings.

Isn’t he a dashing young man?

And just when you thought the show had peaked, it goes up another notch!

A swarm of background singers and dancers has descended on the stage to assist Ruben.

If you didn’t already feel like you were at a professional event for the music industry’s next great star, you certainly do now.

There will be plenty of practice time!

When you consider that they are teens, this is quite impressive.

This is top-notch entertainment!

See Ruben and his incredible crew of dancers in the video below. They absolutely crush it.
