Toby Keith, a beloved and iconic figure in country music, sadly passed away on February 5, 2024. He was widely recognized for his talent and contributions to the music industry.
Before his passing, Toby had been battling stomach cancer since 2022. Despite his illness, he faced his battle with strength and bravery. Toby remained optimistic about his prognosis and cherished the time he spent with his loved ones, including his family.
In June 2023, Toby hosted the annual Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic event. This two-day event aimed to raise funds for the Toby Keith Foundation’s OK Kids Korral, a facility that supports children with cancer in Oklahoma City. Even in the face of his health challenges, Toby remained dedicated to his passion for music and looked forward to returning to performing.
Toby also celebrated significant milestones within his family. He is survived by his three children, including his wife Tricia Lucus’s eldest daughter, Shelley Covel Rowland, whom Toby adopted. His second daughter, Krystal Keith, followed in his musical footsteps and joined him on stage for a memorable performance at the 2004 CMA Awards.
Krystal eventually prioritized raising her two children with her husband, Andrew Sandubrae, but Toby was incredibly proud of her exceptional vocal talents and supported her musical journey.
Toby and Tricia’s son, Stelen Keith Covel, has ventured into real estate investment and co-owns several establishments. Stelen has been happily married to Haley Covel since November 2021. Their wedding was a special occasion because Haley had the privilege of being walked down the aisle by Toby, her father-in-law. Despite his concerns about his health, Toby fulfilled Haley’s heartfelt request, creating a cherished and unforgettable moment for everyone involved.
Haley fondly reflected on her wedding day and expressed her gratitude for Toby’s warm embrace into the family. She will forever treasure the memory of being walked down the aisle by him.
