There’s no denying that weddings are emotional events. They have a way of bringing out the tears of joy in all of us. This was especially true for four-year-old Gage, whose emotions got the best of him when his father, US Marine Corps sergeant Joshua Newville, married Senior Airman Emily Leehan in Ripley, New York a few years ago.

Gage was doing a great job of keeping his composure throughout the wedding. That is, until his father’s bride read vows that she had written specifically for him. That’s when everything changed.

It was a proud moment for little Gage as he stood by his father’s side while he exchanged vows with his soon-to-be wife, Senior Airman Emily Leehan. Little did Gage know, Leehan had prepared a set of vows just for him. As she began to recite them, with an already-emotional audience watching on, Gage couldn’t hold back his tears any longer.

In the midst of Leehan’s heartfelt words, Gage broke down in floods of tears. He couldn’t contain his emotions and immediately wrapped his arms around her. The audience let out a collective ‘awwww’ as Leehan tried to comfort him. “Don’t cry, baby,” she said, fully understanding the overwhelming emotions he was experiencing.

But Leehan didn’t stop there. She continued with her vows, telling Gage how special he was. She praised his intelligence, his kindness, and the impact he had on her life. Gage’s parents, Leehan and Newville, couldn’t help but shed their own tears during this touching moment.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds, still on active-duty, couldn’t immediately head off for their honeymoon. Instead, they returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to start their married life together. It was a small sacrifice for a ceremony that will always be remembered.
