Tammy Gonzales visited her doctor for an ultrasound when she was 17 weeks pregnant.

She was surprised when a picture on the display showed what looked to be her fetus blowing up a balloon.

She initially thought it was lovely, but then learned the awful news: the balloon was really a teratoma, an incredibly uncommon tumor that posed a serious threat to the baby’s life.

The doctor then presented the patient with three options: either have an abortion, carry on with the pregnancy but run a very high danger of the fetus dying at delivery, or undergo an intrauterine procedure that had never been done before.

Even though the risks were very high, the woman went with the latter alternative.

Thankfully, everything turned out okay. The operation was successful, and the baby girl was delivered in great health.
