Gerald Castillo, a famous actor from “General Hospital” and “Saved by the Bell,” passed away at 90.

The actor’s wife, Dayna Quinn-Castillo, informed the Hollywood Reporter that he passed away on May 4 in his Houston home.

Castillo performed in “M*A*S*H,” “Night Court,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” and “All in the Family” in addition to playing the lead character in the ABC daytime serial opera “General Hospital” from 1992 to 1994.

He is most known for portraying Major Slater, A.C. Slater’s father, in the enduring 1990s television series “Saved by the Bell” from 1989 to 1992.

Born on December 23rd, 1932, Castillo began his artistic career at the Goodman Theater in Chicago, where he was raised. He studied acting and stage direction there in the 1960s, according to the Hollywood Reporter, before working with people like Rita Moreno, James Broderick, and Jeanne Crain.

Castillo is said to have been persuaded by fellow actor Sherman Hemsley, who passed away more than ten years ago, to pursue a career in acting in Los Angeles, where he won his first role in 1978 on “The Jeffersons.”

He later had appearances in other feature films and television shows, including “Through Naked Eyes” (1983), “Death Wish 4: The Crackdown” (1987), and “Above Suspicion” (1995).

Castillo, who was semi-retired and worked in theaters in California, was regarded as “a charismatic and perceptive director,” according to his wife. In 2012, he stopped appearing on television or film and went to Houston.

Brian and Stephanie, his grandchildren, and Allen and Bernie, his great-grandsons, survive him.
