John Owen Lowe, Rob Lowe’s youngest son, follows in his famous father’s footsteps in more ways than one.

John, 28, is an actor like his father, and the two co-star in Unstable, a new Netflix comedy series. But acting isn’t the only way the actor has influenced his son.

In celebration of their new project, which will be available on the streaming platform on March 30th, the 28-year-old spoke up about his connection with his father and how he supported him throughout his sober journey.

In an interview during the premiere of Unstable, John spoke openly about his addiction, which his father also battled, and he has been sober for over thirty years.

“To be fully honest and genuine about it,” he told the publication, “I’m forever glad to have supporting parents who were there for me when I needed help.”

“And I know a lot of people don’t have that, and it makes me sad, but it also makes me very grateful that I did, and I’ll be forever grateful for that,” John added.

Rob also discussed his personal sobriety experience and how he tackled assisting his son when it came time for him to get sober.

“I’ve learned so much in my 33 years of recovery,” he stated before adding, “but the number one thing I know is, it’s not going to happen until someone is ready until they’re ready – not until you’re ready until they’re ready.”

“So all you can do is try to keep the bumpers up so they don’t make any horrible, tragic mistakes for themselves or anyone else, be there, support them, and when they’re ready, you can show them the route,” the 9-1-1: Lone Star actor continued, adding, “And when he was ready, that’s what I did.”

In their new series, Rob and John portray father and son, with the latter playing the introverted son of a very eccentric businessman (Rob) whose company is set to fail due to his wild activities.

He has two boys with his wife of more than thirty years, Sheryl Berkoff, whom he married in 1991. His youngest son, John, is now a co-star, while his eldest son, Edward Matthew, a lawyer, is 30 years old.
