Turner’s hits, including “Proud Mary” and “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” resonated with audiences worldwide. Her on-stage charisma and dynamic performances were in a league of their own. In 2008, Turner retired from touring, leaving fans with memories that will last forever.
Turner was the recipient of numerous accolades throughout her career. She won eight competitive Grammy Awards and has stars on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the St Louis Walk of Fame. Her autobiography, “I, Tina,” was adapted into the 1993 film “What’s Love Got To Do With It.” The movie depicted her famously turbulent relationship with Ike Turner. Angela Bassett’s portrayal of Tina earned her an Oscar nomination.
In 2013, Turner married her long-time German beau, music executive Erwin Bach, in a Swiss civil ceremony. Since 1994, she had been living in Switzerland with him. This marriage marked a new chapter in her life, as her first marriage to musician Ike Turner lasted from 1962 to 1978. Ike’s death in December 2007 brought closure to a relationship that had been marked by abuse and turmoil. Turner detailed her harrowing experiences in her 1986 book.
