Known as a judge on the popular show “Dancing With the Stars,” Len was a beloved figure in the dance world. On Saturday, he peacefully passed away in a hospice in Kent, southern England, after a long battle with bone cancer.
Len’s manager, Jackie Gill, revealed that he was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments. Len’s presence on “Dancing With the Stars” will be deeply missed. Alongside Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, he brought his expertise and charm to the judges’ panel.
Born in London in 1944, Len’s passion for dance ignited at the age of 19. He began his career as a professional dancer before making his mark on television. Len served as the head judge on the British version of “Dancing With the Stars,” BBC’s “Strictly Come Dancing,” from its inception in 2004 until Christmas Day 2016. Shirley Ballas gracefully filled his shoes after his departure.

Beyond his television career, Len ran the Goodman Dance Academy in Kent, a renowned dance school. He was passionate about sharing his knowledge and love for dance with aspiring talents. In addition to his dance endeavors, Len penned his autobiography, “Better Late Than Never: From Barrow Boy to Ballroom,” which was released in 2009. He also authored “Dancing Around Britain” and “Lost London.”
