Reese Witherspoon and her husband, Jim Roth, have shared some bad news about their marriage. On March 24, Witherspoon said on Instagram, “We have some personal news to share.”
“We have made the painful decision to divorce after much thought and consideration. We’ve had many beautiful years together and look forward to the future with profound love, generosity, and mutual respect for everything we’ve accomplished together.”
Since bursting onto the scene in the early 1990s, pop culture enthusiasts have eagerly followed the “Legally Blonde” star’s illustrious career. While she is well-known for her legendary filmography, she has also garnered attention for her storybook romance with Roth, which began in 2010. In a 2011 interview, Witherspoon stated that Roth’s inebriated friend catalyzed their “meet cute” moment.
“‘Please excuse my friend,’ Jim remarked as he approached. He recently ended a relationship. “Jim was a great friend who helped him escape that circumstance,” she elaborated. “That’s just who he is, a genuinely nice person.”
Following their lovely first meeting, Witherspoon and Roth embarked on a passionate romance that included marriage and the birth of their son James Roth. Yet, as with many Hollywood couples, their happily ever after has come to an untimely end.

“Our greatest priority as we traverse this next step is our kid and our entire family,” Witherspoon posted on Instagram. “These are never easy issues, and they are incredibly personal. We appreciate everyone’s consideration for our family’s privacy now.”
Witherspoon and Roth appeared to be happily in love with one another before their divorce announcement. The couple spent the holidays with Tennessee and Witherspoon’s elder children, Deacon and Ava, near the end of 2022.
“From our family to yours, we wish you only the best,” she said on Instagram, alongside a carousel of loving family images. A few days later, the ex-couple welcomed 2023 with an optimistic Instagram post about “letting the sunshine in.”
While fans are still reeling from the couple’s sudden divorce, relationship problems have been brewing for some time. A source said the couple had fallen out of love. “Reese and Jim are both more focused on their work than on each other,” a source informed the news outlet. “There’s no longer any romance.”
