Prayers are needed for Randy Travis -

Currently, Randy Travis spends most of his time at his ranch in Tioga, near Lake Ray Roberts in Cooke County, where he lives with his wife, Mary Davis-Travis. But did you know that behind the scenes, this talented artist has experienced health challenges?

In July 2013, Randy Travis visited the emergency room due to congestion. A few days later, he suffered a severe stroke caused by his congestive heart failure. The stroke significantly impacted the core region of his left brain. At one point, his heart stopped completely, and he was put on life support and placed in a coma to protect his brain.

The doctors informed Randy’s then-fiancée, Mary, that he had only a 1% chance of survival. She was asked to consider turning off his life support. Despite these circumstances, Mary remained by his side, determined to fight for him. Tour dates and a TV pilot acting role were all put on hold as Randy Travis fought for his life.

While Randy was in a semi-coma state, Mary witnessed a tear fall from his eyes as he squeezed her hand. This motivated her to tell the doctors, “We’re fighting this.” Randy underwent brain surgery and spent over six months recovering in the hospital. The stroke had affected his entire system, requiring him to relearn how to walk and causing difficulties with his speech. Fortunately, with the help of his wife and physical therapy, he was able to regain mobility on his right side.

Although the stroke has significantly impacted his ability to speak and perform, Randy Travis has not let it stop him. In October 2016, he surprised everyone at his Country Music Hall of Fame induction by performing “Amazing Grace” for the first time since his stroke. Mary spoke on his behalf, as he still struggled with formulating complete sentences.

“This moment is the culmination of Randy’s remarkable music career. Randy, thank you for your love and for listening to us,” Mary said. “Death blinked as Randy faced it head-on. The miracle of God is here before you,” she added. There was not a dry eye in the audience as Randy’s singing filled the room, reminding everyone of his enduring talent.

Three years later, Randy Travis made an appearance at the 2019 CMA Fest, considering it another step towards reclaiming his life. He wanted to reconnect with his fans and, for the first time in over two decades, met them, signed autographs, and took photos with a radiant smile.

In his recently published autobiography, “Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith, and Braving the Storms of Life,” Randy Travis opened up about his highs and lows. He shared stories of his acclaimed music career, including winning seven Grammy Awards, but also addressed his battles with alcoholism, anger, and his infamous 2012 arrest for drunken driving while nude.

Reflecting on his life, Randy Travis realized that the true value lies in what he has done for others. “I know the difference between life and living. Anything I have done for myself will pass away with me, but what I have done for humanity will endure,” he said.

In the later pages of his autobiography, Randy detailed his severe financial struggles, including the absence of disability insurance for his iconic voice. To make matters worse, he discovered that payments and royalties had been mishandled and never reached him. Randy took responsibility for not being more involved in his own financial decisions and encouraged others to do the same.

Approaching his 61st birthday, Randy Travis still occasionally sings, even though he lives with aphasia. Surprisingly, his distinct baritone voice remains unaffected, according to doctors. Mary confirmed that when they travel, Randy sings in the car, perfectly reciting lyrics. Despite the challenges posed by the stroke and aphasia, Randy Travis continues to showcase his love for music.

Randy Travis’ story is a testament to his resilience and the power of prayer. Let us keep him in our thoughts and send him our prayers as he continues to defy the odds and inspire others through his enduring talent and unwavering spirit.
