After 27 years of flawless service, a Burger King employee’s story of receiving a disappointed goody bag has touched people’s hearts.

People have already contributed over $50,000 to a GoFundMe set up in the fast-food worker’s honor because they were so affected by his story. The sum (as of this writing) is $51,020.

It all began when 54-year-old Kevin Ford, a chef and cashier at a Burger King in a Las Vegas airport, claimed to have worked 27 years without missing a shift in exchange for a goody bag.

However, when he opened up the bag, Ford was disappointed to find that it contained what looked like things “they had lying around.” This included a bag of Reese’s, a Starbucks reusable cup, two pens, and one movie ticket.

“I’m happy about anything, I’m thankful for anything I get, I’m not that type of person, believe me. I’ve been through a lot,” he said, adding: “It’s a great company, you know, I’ve been there 27 years.”

Ford’s daughter Seryna created a GoFundMe page in his honor after his YouTube video became popular. She stated in the fundraiser’s description that he had begun working there while raising her and her sister alone.

“My dad continues to work here, because though he does look young, he is coming up on retirement age and leaving would cost him his retirement,” she wrote, adding: “In no way are we asking for money or is he expecting any money but if anyone feels like blessing him he would love to visit his grandchildren.”

The fundraiser, which was started earlier this week, has been a huge success, earning a staggering $51,000 — well surpassing both Seryna’s revised $50,000 goal and the original $40,ooo aim!

“Y’all shattered the original goal so I increased it! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much,” Seryna wrote.
