Mia Robertson, the youngest daughter of Duck Dynasty‘s Jase and Missy Robertson, was born with a condition called cleft lip and palate, which affects the upper lip and can involve the gum as well. It is estimated that approximately one in every 1,600 babies in the United States is born with this condition.
Despite her challenges, Mia has remained positive throughout her journey. At just 18 years old, she has already undergone 13 surgeries, with the hope that the most recent one will be her last. Her resilience and determination serve as an inspiration to other children facing similar obstacles. In fact, Mia took the initiative to create the Mia Moo Fund with the help of her family. The fund’s mission is to spread awareness about cleft lip and palate and provide assistance to families in need of medical funds.
The Robertson family, known for their faith and strong bonds, have been unwavering in their support for Mia. In a recent update on his podcast Unashamed, Jase Robertson shared that Mia is recovering well after her surgery. He expressed gratitude for the prayers and love they have received and described Mia as a true champion.
Before the surgery, Missy Robertson, Mia’s mother, reflected on the uncertainties they faced regarding future procedures. She acknowledged that there are no definite answers and that they rely on their faith in God for guidance. Mia, now 18 years old, takes an active role in her medical decisions, reminding us all to lean on the Lord and accept that we are not in control.
Mia herself is eager to reach the finish line of her medical journey. She expressed hope that she won’t have to see her doctors in a hospital setting anymore. Her bravery and optimism shine through as she looks forward to the future.
In addition to supporting Mia, the Robertson family is also preparing to welcome a new member into their home. They have opened their hearts and doors to a child whose mother was unable to care for them.
