Lori and George Schappell, two incredibly remarkable individuals, have left an indelible mark on history. Born in 1961, these extraordinary twins captivated the world with their extraordinary bond and resilience.

Conjoined at the skull, they shared blood vessels and 30% of their brains, making them one of the rarest forms of conjoined twins, representing only 2-6% of all cases.

Despite facing unique challenges, Lori and George shattered records throughout their lives. Their first record was established as the world’s oldest female conjoined twins.

However, they didn’t stop there. In 2007, George bravely came out as transgender, formerly known as Reba. This transformative moment set a new record in the Guinness World Records as the first set of same-sex conjoined twins to identify as different genders.

On April 7, 2024, the world bid farewell to these incredible souls. Lori and George, aged 62, will forever be remembered as the oldest living conjoined twins in history. Their journey touched the hearts of many and continues to inspire generations.

Living as conjoined twins tightly bound to one another, Lori and George could never see each other’s faces. Their connection was at the forehead, facing away from one another. Although their physical attachment never varied, their indomitable spirits yearned for individuality and independence.

Separated at Birth

At the time of their birth, separating conjoined twins safely was not yet possible. But the truth is, they never desired separation. In fact, Lori strongly believed that tampering with the divine design of their unity was an affront to God’s work.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times in 2002, Lori expressed her firm belief: “I don’t believe in separation…I think you are messing with God’s work. I don’t wake up thinking, ‘Oh, I’m a conjoined twin.’ I have two arms and two legs. I’m just a regular person…I live a normal life.”

The bond between Lori and George was unbreakable, and their connection went far beyond the physical realm.

This extraordinary relationship allowed them to live an extraordinary life, championing the message of acceptance, resilience, and the beauty of individuality.
