Kelly Clarkson admits she is ‘not above spanking’ her children if they are out of line

Do you remember being spanked as a child? Spanking as a form of discipline has stirred up quite a bit of controversy in recent times. Organizations like The American Academy of Pediatrics argue that spanking is ineffective and harmful. However, despite these concerns, there are still parents who stand by this method.

One such parent is Kelly Clarkson, the Grammy-winning singer and mom of two. In a recent radio interview, Kelly opened up about her thoughts on spanking as a means of discipline. She candidly shared, “I’m not above spanking. I don’t mean hitting her hard. I just mean a little spanking.” For her, it’s not about causing harm but rather about teaching boundaries.

Growing up in Texas, Kelly experienced spanking as part of her upbringing. And she sees no issue with it. “My parents spanked me, I did fine in life and I feel fine about it,” she stated. Emphasizing her southern roots, she mentioned how spankings were just a part of life in her community. If she ever found herself in trouble at school, her mom would even grant permission for the principal to deliver a spanking. And despite her own experiences, Kelly believes she has grown into a well-rounded individual with plenty of character.

While Kelly stands firm on her beliefs, she acknowledges that public discipline can be challenging. Many people don’t view spanking as an acceptable form of discipline anymore, especially in public spaces. However, Kelly remains undeterred. She explained, “I find nothing wrong with a spanking. I do believe in spanking, so you might catch me spanking my child at the zoo.”

To ensure her children understand the consequences of their actions, Kelly communicates with them beforehand. She warns her kids, saying, “Hi, I’m going to spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now, this is ridiculous.” And according to Kelly, this approach has been effective. By setting clear expectations, she has seen a decrease in challenging behavior from her children.
