The actor Drena De Niro’s daughter from The Godfather, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, was his mother.
Following the tragic passing of his 19-year-old grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, Robert De Niro has issued a statement. The Oscar-winning actor expressed his sadness at the loss of his beloved grandson Leo to Page Six on Monday.
“Thank you very much for your condolences from everyone. We kindly request space to process our loss of Leo in private.” On Sunday, Drena, Robert’s daughter, broke the awful news.
The caption on the 51-year-old’s Instagram post began, “My beautiful sweet angel.” “I have loved you beyond words or description since the first time I felt you inside my belly,” she continued. “You have been my pride, my heart, and everything sincere and true in my life.”
Drena, who Robert adopted when he wed Diahnne in 1976, subsequently announced the passing of the son she and the artist Carlos Mare shared: “I don’t know how to live without you, but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.”
“You were so sincerely loved and appreciated, and I wish that love alone could have saved you,” she said as she concluded her statement.” My baby, I’m very sorry. Also, sorry, @carlosmare. My sweet baby, rest in peace and enjoy eternal paradise.”
Leandro’s father hasn’t released a statement since his son passed away, but he did post a black square to Instagram where friends and admirers have been sending condolences. Leandro’s cause of death has not been disclosed.
Leandro was an actor, just like his mother and grandpa before him. In A Star Is Born (2018), he appeared alongside his mother, Lady Gaga, and Bradley Cooper. A child’s role in the 2005 movie The Collection and roles in the crime drama Cabaret Maxine were among her other acting credits.
Given that he had just recently spent Mother’s Day with his mother in May, Leandro was obviously quite close to her. Drena said in the caption of one of her Mother’s Day pictures, “Mother’s Day – A Lil bit of Leo, Lil bit of Mare,” “Today was a good day.”
Leandro’s granddad welcomed his seventh kid with his current partner, Tiffany Chen, barely one month before the news of Leandro’s death. The Goodfellas star confirmed that Gia Virginia Chen De Niro, his and Tiffany’s daughter, was born on April 6, 2023. In a later interview with Extra, Robert made it appear as though he was amenable to the notion of having even more kids, saying, “I’m going to have a new one every year.”
Since Drena was born before her mother gave birth to Raphael, her and Robert’s first biological child, in 1976, she is the oldest of Robert’s seven children. Between 1976 and 1988, when they got divorced, the Irish actor was married to Diahnne.
After divorcing Leandro’s grandma and Drena’s mother, Robert had a relationship with model Toukie Smith. Before their separation in 1996, Toukie and the actor from New York City welcomed twins, Julian and Aaron, in 1995. Robert wed the socialite and actress Grace Hightower in 1997, and the two of them had two kids together: Elliot, born in 1998, and Helen, born in 2011.
