It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Chad McQueen, the actor who gained fame for his role as Dutch in the first two “Karate Kid” movies.
The beloved actor passed away on September 11 at the age of 63. Chad McQueen was at his farm in Palm Desert when he took his last breath. Since a serious accident in 2020, he had been unable to fully recover.
His lawyer and friend, Arthur H. Barens, confirmed the news today to the Associated Press, but did not disclose the cause of death.
A close friend of Chad McQueen revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor died due to multiple organ failure.
His wife Jeanie and his children Chase and Madison posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, saying, “A extraordinary journey as a loving father to us, together with his unwavering commitment to our mother, truly exemplified a life filled with love and dedication.
His passion for racing not only showcased his exceptional talent, but also served as a way to honor his father’s legacy, a testament to the values instilled in him.”
Born in Los Angeles in 1960, Chad McQueen began his film career in the late 1970s before landing his most famous role as Dutch, who torments Daniel LaRusso in “Karate Kid” (1984) and its sequel “Karate Kid: The Moment of Truth” (1986).
Chad McQueen did not appear in “Karate Kid 3” (1989) or the “Cobra Kai” series, which gained tremendous popularity on Netflix in recent years.
Throughout his film career, he appeared in numerous movies. Some of his notable works include “Skateboard” (1978), written by Dick Wolf, “Martial Law” (1991), “New York Cop” (1993), “Death Ring” (1992), and “Red Line” (1995).
Like his father, Chad McQueen was passionate about cars. He started competing at the age of 10, and in 2010, he founded his own company, McQueen Racing, which builds race cars and motorcycles.
This loss leaves a void in Hollywood, as Chad McQueen brought immense talent and charisma to the screen. His memorable performances in the “Karate Kid” movies will forever be cherished by fans around the world.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire film industry during this difficult time. Chad McQueen’s legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
