Garlic Brandy

A strong garlic brew is a traditional preparation often used as a robust internal tonic. When simmered, garlic releases allicin and other sulfur-based compounds that are widely studied for their ability to support the immune system and promote cardiovascular health.

This preparation is particularly valued during the colder months or when the body feels the onset of fatigue, as it acts as a natural stimulant for the body’s defense mechanisms.

Garlic and Lemon Vitality Brew

This method uses a gentle simmer to mellow the sharp, pungent bite of raw garlic while extracting its beneficial oils into a warm, hydrating base. Adding lemon at the end provides a boost of Vitamin C and helps balance the earthy flavor of the garlic.

Ingredients

  • 3โ€“4 cloves Fresh garlic, peeled and smashed
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/2 Fresh lemon, juiced
  • 1 tsp Raw honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 pinch Cayenne pepper (to further stimulate circulation)

Instructions

  1. Smash the garlic cloves and let them sit for 10 minutes before cooking; this allows the enzyme alliinase to convert alliin into beneficial allicin.
  2. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
  3. Add the smashed garlic and reduce the heat to low.
  4. Simmer the garlic for 10โ€“12 minutes. You want the water to reduce slightly and the garlic to become translucent.
  5. Remove from the heat and let the brew cool for a minute or two.
  6. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and your sweetener of choice. Adding the lemon after boiling preserves its heat-sensitive Vitamin C.
  7. Strain into a mug and drink while warm.

Key Benefits

  • Immune Modulation: Garlic is well-documented for its antimicrobial and antiviral properties, helping the body stay resilient against seasonal stressors.
  • Circulatory Health: The sulfur compounds in garlic can help promote healthy blood flow and support the elasticity of blood vessels.
  • Respiratory Support: The warm vapors from the brew, combined with the pungency of the garlic, can help clear the sinuses and soothe the upper respiratory tract.

Note: For those with sensitive stomachs, it is best to enjoy this brew after a light meal rather than on an empty stomach to avoid minor digestive discomfort.
