Our children’s guardian angels are a potent defense against danger when we are unable to shield them.

The entire world is perilous. There is no way of knowing what might happen to you or your children when you leave the comforts of home. Since Adam and Eve, this has been the situation and will remain the situation until the second coming of Jesus.

We don’t live in isolation, which is wonderful news.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “human life is surrounded by [angels] and their watchful care and intercession from its beginning until death” (CCC 336). God assigns a guardian angel to every one of us whose job it is to lead, watch over, and shield us. Even though we don’t always feel or see them, they are constantly around and ready to help us if we need them.

We only need to ask.

It is simple for parents to forget that their kids have guardian angels and that we can pray to them and request their mighty protection over our kids through the mediation of our guardian angel. It is most appropriate to pray to our children’s guardian angel when we are unable to be present to protect them physically.

Here is a little prayer that is typically labeled, “A Mother’s Prayer to the Guardian Angels of Her Children,” and that might help us calm our hearts and find peace in the knowledge that our children are in good hands.

I humbly salute you, O you faithful, heavenly friends of my children! I give you heartfelt thanks for all the love and goodness you show them. At some future day I shall, with thanks more worthy than I can now give, repay your care for them, and before the whole heavenly court acknowledge their indebtedness to your guidance and protection. Continue to watch over them. Provide for all their needs of body and soul. Pray, likewise, for me, for my husband, and my whole family, that we may all one day rejoice in your blessed company. Amen.
