After being hospitalized and intubated just hours after attending the Barbie premiere, Ty Pennington is providing fans with an update on his condition.

On July 14, Pennington, who is primarily recognized as the carpenter for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, posted images of himself wearing a medical gown on Instagram.

At one point, Pennington was intubated before he regained consciousness. “From the red carpet to the ICU… this last week has been interesting!”

As Pennington continued, he shared with his fans that “I’m okay now, still recovering but I felt it looked weird that I hadn’t posted about my teams #BOTB VICTORY!SO freaking proud of @smashingdiy & @iamstevelewis!!”

Pennington continued by outlining the specifics of what transpired. “In order to explain why I went MIA… I attended the red carpet for @barbiethemovie on Sunday, went to Colorado on Monday to begin production in Breckinridge, and woke up at 4 a.m. on Tuesday barely able to breathe. It turns out that the sore throat I’ve been experiencing for the past month is actually an abscess that has gotten so big that it is blocking my airway. I was intubated and rushed to the Denver ICU the very next moment.

“I had surgery on Wednesday, and I was taken out of the intensive care unit yesterday afternoon. Thank you so much to the wonderful team at Summit Health in Frisco and St. Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO for taking such wonderful care of me. “Just happy to be here,” Pennington wrote, along with the hashtag, is a fantastic reminder to pay attention to your body when it’s trying to tell you something.

How scary! We are so glad to hear Pennington is now doing well and on his way to recovery!
