Only a few days have passed after the tragic loss of Robert De Niro’s grandson, and new information about a possible cause of death is already emerging.

Drena De Niro, the eldest child of De Niro, responded to a fan who inquired about what transpired in the comments area of her Instagram post about her son Leandro’s passing.

She said, “For all these people still f—ing around selling and buying this s—, my son is gone forever. Someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him.”

A spokesperson for both De Niros also informed Fox News Digital that “no comments are being made at this time.”

Drena initially reported Leandro De Niro Rodriquez’s death in a sorrowful Instagram post.

“My beautiful sweet angel,” she said. “Since I first felt you inside of me, I have loved you more than I can express. All that was ever true, pure, and joyful in my life has been you. Right now, I wish I was with you. I want to be here with you. I don’t know how to survive without you, but I’ll try to carry on and share the love and light you so generously made me experience in becoming your mother.”

De Niro, 79, addressed the tragic death in a message that Fox News Digital was able to get.

He expressed his “profound sorrow” on losing his “loved grandson Leo.” “Thank you very much for your condolences from everyone. We kindly request space to process our loss of Leo in private.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Drena expressed her sorrow: “It is with tremendous shock and sadness that we say farewell to our dear son Leo. We appreciate the love and support that have been shown to us, and we respectfully request some space to mourn this unbearable loss right now.

In response to inquiries from Fox News Digital on his passing, a DCPI representative said that on July 2, they responded to a 911 call where “an 18-year-old male was found unconscious, unresponsive and was pronounced deceased by EMS on scene.” The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.

If the case is being examined as an overdose or if there are any suspects, a DCPI spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.

De Niro’s oldest child is Drena. The actor adopted her during his 1976–1988 marriage to Diahnne Abbott, her mother.

With fiancée Tiffany Chen, De Niro recently gave birth to his seventh child, a daughter named Gia.
