When we hear the term “dystopian,” we often think of society depicted in novels, living in fear or stripped of humanity. While these are typically fictional tales, they serve as cautionary reminders. In China, however, there exists an apartment building that resembles the setting of a dystopian novel, yet it offers a fascinating and convenient living experience for its 30,000 residents, complete with all necessary amenities.

Situated in Qianjiang Century City, Hangzhou, the Regent International apartment building was designed by Alicia Loo, the chief designer of the Singapore Sands Hotel. Constructed in 2013, this towering structure stands at an impressive height of 675 feet and houses approximately 20,000 residents. The building boasts an intriguing S-shape, with either 36 or 39 floors, depending on the side. It is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, where numerous residents coexist under a single roof.
Inside the Regent International, residents can find over 30 floors hosting a variety of amenities such as restaurants, pools, nail salons, grocery stores, internet cafes, and much more. It truly is an all-inclusive living experience within this “dystopian apartment.”
Convenience and Affordability: A Winning Combination
Living at the Regent International offers residents unparalleled convenience with all their necessities just a few steps away. Another significant advantage is affordability, making it an attractive choice for many. The units come in different sizes and prices, ranging from 1,500 RMB (around $200.00) to 4,000 RMB (just under $600.00) per month.
