Meet Thomas Lamont, a resident of Buffalo who has dedicated the last 19 years of his life to being a foster parent and adopting children. One of Thomas’s oldest adoptees, Michael, recalls his time in Thomas’s home with gratitude and fondness. For Michael, Thomas’s home became his third family, after the biological parents he was separated from. Thomas never abandoned his children, and even though they eventually grew up and started families of their own, the love and care they received from him remained unwavering. Now that they have all grown up, Michael marvels at the fact that Thomas has started the journey of parenthood all over again with the recent adoption of the five siblings. “He ended up saving my life,” Michael chuckles, reflecting on the impact Thomas had on him. “Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am now.”
Despite the challenges and the sheer number of children in his care, Thomas eventually decided to take a break. One of his older children had moved out and gotten married, and he felt a pang of homesickness. However, fate had other plans for him. When Thomas learned that five siblings were in need of a loving home, he couldn’t resist the call to “come out of retirement.”
What made this decision even more significant for Thomas was the fact that he knew the biological father of these children. He knew firsthand that these siblings should not be separated and placed in different homes. Sadly, for over 1.5 years, the four children had lived in separate cities, longing to be reunited. Thomas’s home became their refuge, a place where they could finally be together as a family.
