Finding a permanent family through adoption is a great experience in and of itself, but when Disney princesses are involved, the whole thing becomes even more magical.

Seven princesses and Prince Charming unexpectedly arrived this week to support Danielle, a five-year-old princess who was adopted by Jim and Sarah Koning, shocking everyone in the Grand Rapids, Michigan, courtroom.

Caseworkers appeared at the hearing in fairy godmother attire complete with wands and princess-style tiaras. Even the judge took part in the celebration by donning a princess-themed attire underneath her robe to mark the event.

The family was thrilled to have completed the “long path” to adoption, according to mom Sarah Koning, and Danielle’s princess surprise made the day even more memorable.

It had already been a beautiful day, but it was much better since it was something we had been looking forward to for a very long time, Koning said. Knowing that we love her and that she is in the right place made the experience even better for her, and it will be something she remembers for the rest of her life.

At the hearing, the princesses congratulated the adoptive parents and wished Danielle well in her new, permanent family.

It was a difficult path because of the contested adoption, she said.

The princess theme was thought up by Kristina Grey, a foster care case manager at the Samaritas organization who collaborated with Danielle, for the Konings’ special day.

Grey acknowledged that she was aware of Danielle’s worries about the future. She said, “Permanence had been a problem for her. She yearned to understand who she was and her place in the world.”

“I knew right there and then that I had to make her adoption day unique for her,” Grey concluded.

Koning is appreciative of such a memorable day.

She said, “I was really taken away.” “Watching it happen and realizing how unforgettable it would be for Danielle was amazing.”

Koning added, “We simply feel fortunate to be able to have these two children and to be able to raise, educate, and love them.”
