Lime and Salt

The combination of fresh lime juice and coarse salt is a cornerstone of traditional restorative care, acting as both a potent electrolyte balancer and a high-performance topical exfoliant. Limes are exceptionally rich in citric acid and bioflavonoids, which help to clarify the skin and support cellular energy, while salt provides essential trace minerals like magnesium and potassium.

When used as a tonic or a treatment, this duo works to neutralize acidity in the body and remove the physical “buildup” of environmental stressors from the skin’s surface.

Benefits of Lime and Salt

  • Alkalizing Support: Although acidic to the taste, lime juice becomes alkaline once metabolized, helping to balance the body’s internal pH.
  • Mineral Replenishment: Pure sea salt provides the electrolytes necessary for proper muscle function and hydration.
  • Surface Clarification: The combination of chemical exfoliation (citric acid) and manual exfoliation (salt crystals) creates a professional-level smoothing effect for rough skin.

Zesty Mineral Body Scrub

This invigorating preparation is designed to be used in the shower to wake up the senses and smooth the skin of the arms and legs.

Ingredients

  • 1 large organic lime (juiced and zested)
  • 3 tablespoons coarse sea salt or Himalayan pink salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil or sweet almond oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon raw honey (to bind the scrub)

Instructions

  1. Zest: Finely grate the green outer peel (zest) of the lime. This contains the highest concentration of essential oils.
  2. Juice: Squeeze the juice into a glass bowl, ensuring no seeds are included.
  3. Mix: Add the salt, oil, honey, and lime zest. Stir until the salt is evenly coated but not fully dissolvedโ€”you want the crystals to remain intact for scrubbing.
  4. Steam: Stand in a warm shower for 5 minutes to allow your pores to open and the skin to soften.
  5. Scrub: Apply the mixture to your damp skin in firm, circular motions. Focus on areas like elbows, knees, and heels.
  6. Rinse: Wash away the scrub with lukewarm filtered water. The oil will leave a thin, protective veil on the skin.
  7. Dry: Gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel, leaving a hint of the lime’s refreshing scent.
