Concentrated Garlic and Olive Oil Steep

Garlic has been used for generations as a potent botanical antifungal, thanks to a sulfur-rich compound called allicin. When garlic is crushed, this compound is activated, providing a natural way to address stubborn nail fungus and support the health of the nail bed.

Because allicin is highly concentrated, it works by penetrating the layers of the nail to inhibit the growth of fungal spores while also acting as a natural antiseptic for the surrounding skin.

Benefits of Garlic for Nail Health

  • Antifungal Properties: Allicin is known to be effective against various types of fungi, including those that commonly affect the toenails.
  • Sulfur Enrichment: Garlic is high in sulfur, which is a key building block for keratin, the protein that makes up your nails.
  • Increased Circulation: The warming nature of garlic can help stimulate blood flow to the fingertips and toes, aiding in faster nail growth.

Concentrated Garlic and Olive Oil Steep

Using an oil base helps the garlicโ€™s active compounds stay in contact with the nail longer without drying out the cuticle.

Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 fresh organic garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 5 drops tea tree essential oil (optional, for extra potency)
  • A small glass jar with a lid

Instructions

  1. Crush: Peel the garlic cloves and crush them thoroughly using a garlic press or the side of a knife. Let the crushed garlic sit for 10 minutes to allow the allicin to fully develop.
  2. Infuse: Place the garlic into the small glass jar and pour the olive oil over it. Add the tea tree oil if you are using it.
  3. Macerate: Seal the jar and let it sit in a dark place for 24 hours. This allows the oil to draw out the garlicโ€™s essence.
  4. Apply: Using a clean cotton swab, apply the oil directly to the affected nail and the skin immediately around it.
  5. Set: For best results, put on a pair of clean cotton socks (if treating toes) and let the oil soak in for at least 30 minutes before wiping away any excess.
  6. Frequency: Repeat this process once daily in the evening until the new, healthy nail begins to grow out from the base.
