Ann Curry, a journalist with an illustrious career, left NBC News after 25 years. At 67 years old, she has understandably taken a step back from the spotlight in recent years. However, retirement is far from her mind as she continues to contribute to the field of journalism.

Curry’s journey in the industry began in 1978 when she worked as an intern at KTVL, an NBC affiliate in Oregon. Excelling in her role, she became the station’s first female news reporter. Her talent and dedication led her to KGW in Portland, where she worked as an anchor and reporter. Later, she relocated to Los Angeles and spent six years as a reporter for a CBS affiliate, earning two Emmy Awards for her exceptional work.

In 1990, Curry joined NBC News as a correspondent in Chicago before becoming an anchor for the morning show NBC News at Sunrise. She even filled in for Matt Lauer on Today during her time there. In 1997, she became a news anchor on Today and held the position until 2011. Additionally, she was chosen as a co-anchor for Dateline NBC in 2005 and frequently stepped in as the main host on NBC Nightly News from 2005 to 2011.

However, in June 2012, Curry’s departure from Today marked a deeply emotional and public event. The specific reasons behind her exit were never fully disclosed. Nevertheless, she remained with NBC News until January 2015, culminating her impressive 25-year tenure with the network.

Despite slowing down after her departure from NBC News, Curry continued to make significant contributions to journalism. She established her own media company, worked on the PBS series “We’ll Meet Again,” delivered a TED Talk on rebuilding trust in journalism, and hosted the show “Chasing the Cure” on TNT.

In recognition of her impactful work documenting the experiences of individuals enduring conflicts and natural disasters, Curry received the prestigious Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award from Washington State University in 2022. Moreover, she engaged in a conversation with Min Jin Lee, author of the acclaimed book “Pachinko,” for a show on PBS Arts Talk.

Although Curry isn’t an avid social media user, she recently made a comeback after a year and a half of inactivity to share a photo of a winter scenery. Accompanying the image, she wrote, “Good morning world. Keep safe and cozy. ‘The woods are lovely, dark and deep…’” before retreating from the platform once again.

Curry’s passion for journalism and her dedication to telling impactful stories have left an indelible mark on the industry. Despite her age, she continues to inspire and captivate audiences with her unwavering commitment to the craft.
